It felt as if we were in the middle of Paris Fashion Week, everyone looked happy though the conservative chique look prevailed to honor the many lives lost in Japan. The moon was shinning bright over the former St. Vibiana's Church, and at the sounds of the the Andrew Sister's Trio we sipped on the newest elixir in town, Caipirinhas. The signature 1940's look of Stop Staring by Alicia Estrada colored the runway with poka dots, stripes, floral prints and Lurex blends of leopard print... I was in love. As my favorite columnist Lynn Yaeger would describe "I’m in love with the girl in the printed vintage dresses with her blond hair braided and wrapped around her head like the Ukrainian politician Yulia Tymoshenko."
Best part of the evening was hanging out with the Designer Alicia Estrada and "The Girls Next Door" Bridget Marquardt and friend, who I accidentally "schooled" on the benefits of the traditional drink from Brasil that was being served all evening. Alicia's very proud of her designs giving a slim and elegant look to the modern woman, being an on the go business woman herself, she dazzled the red carpet with one of her latest looks.
Designer Nick Verros also attended the event and seemed to be having a great time, overall a lovely evening despite the unspoken sadness lingering in the air. Attempts to gather designers to donate their overstock merchandize to the victims of the Tsunami were announced by Board of Public Works Commissioner Cynthia Ruiz who donated the first $100 herself to the cause.
