LA Fashion Week's 'Creme de la Creme'

It felt as if we were in the middle of Paris Fashion Week, everyone looked happy though the conservative chique look prevailed to honor the many lives lost in JapanThe moon was shinning bright over the former St. Vibiana's Church,  and at the sounds of the the Andrew Sister's Trio we sipped on the newest elixir in town, Caipirinhas. The signature 1940's look of Stop Staring by Alicia Estrada colored the runway with poka dots, stripes, floral prints and Lurex blends of leopard print... I was in love. As my favorite columnist Lynn Yaeger would describe "I’m in love with the girl in the printed vintage dresses with her blond hair braided and wrapped around her head like the Ukrainian politician Yulia Tymoshenko."

Best part of the evening was hanging out with the Designer Alicia Estrada and "The Girls Next Door" Bridget Marquardt and friend, who I accidentally "schooled" on the benefits of the traditional drink from Brasil that was being served all evening. Alicia's very proud of her designs giving a slim and elegant look to the modern woman, being an on the go business woman herself, she dazzled the red carpet with one of her latest looks.

Designer Nick Verros also attended the event and seemed to be having a great time, overall a lovely evening despite the unspoken sadness lingering in the air. Attempts to gather designers to donate their overstock merchandize to the victims of the Tsunami were announced by  Board of Public Works Commissioner Cynthia Ruiz who donated the first $100 herself to the cause.

Upcoming project...

Young blood Anjara Garcia, just recently introduced to me by a good friend Sonia Carmona, currently the Art director of Marketing I believe. Knowing Sonia she's probably doing everything except for the design itself, which Anjara does beautifully. I was asked to submit my work for possible textile prints for some of their Supima Cotton Basic tops, perhaps even leggings? I do miss printed leggings... I look forward to collaborating with fellow Spanish designers specially since we both have family roots in Andalucia. Check out their Spring 2011 Preview online at http://www.anjara.com/en/

My new collaboration

I've been asked by Philippe Naouri to help with the Men's knit line for the brand "Cult of Individuality," the lead designer currently exhibiting a the Coterie show in New York City, sounds like a young hip guy who knows what he wants... Inspired by Philippe's Vintage rugged look from Pratt's and Vintage 1, we are putting together a small collection of men's knits that will hopefully compliment Ron Poisson's line. From their press kit:

Sure to set you apart from the rest of the denim-donned crowd, Cult of Individuality features unique washes like Cloud, a wash bleached inside-out leaving hints of blue around the waistband and pockets or Freedom, a light blue denim featuring very little to extreme distressing depending on the style; to Royal, a clean, dark blue and Wiskey, which features light fading on the front with a vintage, vertical whisker effect. "

The Louis Vuitton way...

I was actually looking for the new Louis Vuitton commercial with the tattoo guy, that Maggie insists is gonna be my next husband...lol but instead I found this which was much more inspiring and fun to share. I will eventually look for that other video, something about dirty finger nails... No very LV at all!

The new Hot Spot in Las Vegas

After many years trying to top my favorite nightclub in Las Vegas... Don't know if you guys remember "Ice"but in my days that was the spot where all the Brazilians would come to spend New Year's Eve. Other than TAO or LAVO nothing has really impressed me as much as this new club located at the newest Casino on the Strip called The Cosmopolitan. If you're a girl all you have to do is RSVP on their website and avoid the three hour line. If not, get used to the waiting, there are so many different lines you don't know who to bullshit to get in... But once you're in it's simply heaven on Earth! With three rooms to chose from, the Library (the quiet room), the Boom Box Room (House music/special guests) and the main room that is surrounded by video projections and a great sound system. Outdoors you find the pool area in which the cabanas come with a private jacuzzi! Can't wait til Summer!!!!!!!!!

After seven years attending the Las Vegas Magic Show as a Designer... I decided to use this four days to look for the hottest new trends and styles out there. What products we will be seeing in stores for Fall 2011 and what to look for... With the help of my best friend Magdalena Guillen, who lent me her visual talent by capturing all the images in this blog, and a few entries as well. Overall we had a blast and we won't stop here. I promise! Follow us to hear about the latest clubs, music, fashion products and Art... Now that we are hooked so should you.
